Anticipation Guide

 


 

Purpose of Strategy

 

Use an anticipation guide to retrieve students' preexisting knowledge about the topic of the material to be read and to establish the purpose for reading whether it be to verify or revise the students' understanding of the topic.

 

Rationale of Lesson

 

Students will examine the practices and beliefs of Confucianism, Legalism, and Taoism to define ‘philosophy’ and develop their understanding of the goals of Confucianism, Legalism, and Taoism in building institutions and shaping society.

Materials

  • time framework poster (at least one)
  • time framework on a 8” x 11” piece of paper
  • anticipation guide on a 8” x 11” piece of paper
  • overhead projector or whiteboard
  • pencils and or pens; pencils and or pens
  • an anticipation guide poster (at least one)
  • copies of material on Confucianism, Legalism, or Taoism to each group, which is found at
    • Confucianism (Break into two segments of material)
    • Legalism (Count as one segment of material)
    • Taoism (Break into two segments of material)
