Collaborative Strategic Reading (Part 2)

Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk (2009)

Purpose of Strategy

Collaborative Strategic Reading is comprised of four separate strategies for students to use before, during and after reading a passage.  Research has shown these strategies are most effective in a peer-mediated learning environment; however, the multiple strategies should be taught and mastered by students before they can be used effectively in combination.  This lesson teaches the strategies.  The CSR, Cooperative Learning lesson plan will focus on the peer-mediated learning component.

Rationale of Lesson

This lesson will focus on the specific Collaborative Strategic Reading strategies used by students when reading an expository passage to improve comprehension.
